One question we receive everywhere we go is, "What is it like to be a missionary". That is a very difficult question to answer. In trying to answer that question, for the past year or so Melody and I have been putting together a new book on missions. We compiled old reports, personal letters, daily journals and personal memories into a book that details daily life starting with our survey trip and going through the six years we spent in Kenya. It has lots of insights into the culture and lots and lots of pictures.
I have to admit that none of my ideas originate with me. I truly believe that the Spirit working within us will guide us to all truths is we will only allow him.
More times than I can remember readers have written me saying, "How did you know I was struggling with this problem, it is just what I needed to hear." I freely admit that I don't write for the benefit of any one person or group of people, I write what is on my heart at any particular time, nothing more nothing less. I have no axe to grind or platform upon which to stand other than the fact that I am saved by the Grace of God through my effort to be obedient to this commands. Sometimes I'm successful, sometimes I'm not, but then that is what Grace is all about isn't it. I pray that these stories in some way bless you as you read them.
As you will see as you read this book, I love stories about children. One of my instructors, Richard Bagget, of about 35 years ago used to say that “Stories or illustrations are the widows which shed light upon the Word of God”.
This book is full of stories, some true happenings, some just good stories. Each of these short devotional lessons are a sermon unto themselves. I have had preachers write and tell me that they use them as sermon starters or for devotional lessons. Mostly they are written with the hopes that they will touch something in your heart and help you in your daily walk with God.
Involvement... involving others... involving self, those words outline some of the greatest challenges to church leaders as well as the individual members. What are some of the sources of the problems? What are some answers which might help us be "The Church" (i.e. that which is made up of individual members) that we need to be?
This book strives to answer some of those questions and hopefully will be a blessing to you and the body of believers wherever you meet and worship.
